Fandom: Ms. Marvel
Characters/Pairing/Other Subject: Kamala Khan
Content Notes/Warnings: Contains an image of Donald Trump.
Medium: watercolor, I think
Artist on DW/LJ: n/a
Artist Website/Gallery: maryneart tag on Tumblr
Why this piece is awesome: When I saw this and realized we were on the last day of open reccing, I just had to post it. It's a timely and painful portrait of Kamala Khan reacting to the news of last weekend's U.S. immigration ban. (For those who don't follow Ms. Marvel: Kamala is both a superhero and an American Muslim teenager.) This picture highlights how, despite her powers, Kamala is first and foremost an ordinary person making her way in the world, which I think is one of the great strengths of the Ms. Marvel comics. Kamala's grief is palpable, made all the more so by the contrast with the patriotic, heroic images scattered around her room.
Link: I don't know what to say.
